Timing is everything. Statistically, the best time to sell is between March and May, as spring inspires and motivates people. When there are more people looking, you get better prices. In spring, people are interested in starting afresh, and finding a new place to live. Usually Easter is a really strong time for selling, too. September is also considered a strong month, after the main holiday season. August, November, December, January and February are known as the slowest months.
It's worth bearing in mind that when you are buying, rather than selling, the reverse applies - a great time to buy is always November and December. People who sell in November want to get their property sold before the New Year, so you can usually get incredible bargains. The middle of summer is very slack, with buyers away on holiday.
