A part of the home that is often overlooked during a major spring clean is the bathroom. That’s because toilets, sinks, showers and so on are usually cleaned at least once a week.
However, when undertaking a spring clean you should really go all out to ‘deep clean’ your bathroom.
There are, of course, numerous cleaning products on the market to help you in your task.
But sometimes a hygienic and clean bathroom can be achieved with a little help from nature. For example, half a lemon covered with a sprinkling of baking powder is guaranteed to remove scum and marks from baths, sinks and shower cubicles. It’s a non-abrasive combination, which means there will be no scratches.
A vinegar and water solution, meanwhile, can be used to clean tiles, mirrors and paintwork. They will all sparkle like new when cleaned with this mixture.
If you want your taps and stainless steel fittings to sparkle as well then polish them by using baby oil and a dry soft cloth.
White vinegar can be used on toilets to get them shining, too. It’s particularly good for getting rid of the rings that sometimes form in toilet bowls. A monthly clean with white vinegar and a brush really keeps a toilet in tip-top condition.
A 50:50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water is extremely effective in removing mould and mildew. Simply spray the affected area and wipe clean. Incidentally, hydrogen peroxide can be bought at chemists and beauty care suppliers.
