This is when the stress of a house move can really kick in because the countdown is well and truly on, but as long as you are well organised everything should go swimmingly.
It’s the time to confirm the date of your departure and to finalise plans with your house removal company. Agree arrival times and make sure your removers have the directions to your new home address, and make any necessary parking arrangements.
Double check with utility companies to ensure they will start services on your arrival date, and also contact the telephone, electric, gas and water companies to confirm the date to discontinue your current services. In addition you should consider settling all bills that are due to be paid.
It’s a good idea to arrange for your post to be forwarded to your new address. You will be charged a small fee for this service but its worthwhile to ensure peace of mind. Contact your bank or building society to transfer or close accounts if required. Clear out safety deposit boxes, too.
Make sure you return the things that you have taken on rent, such as library books and DVDs, and de-register from your doctor, dentist and optician if you're moving out of your present area.
When it comes to packing, you should have already boxed up small appliances at this stage, so focus on all other items you will not need until you arrive at your new destination. And don’t forget to get rid of any clutter that you do not wish to take along.
Usually removal companies do not have space for plants, so it’s also now time to decide on the plants you want to keep and those you will have to give away.
