Now’s the time to get the serious packing under way. It can be a taxing job, but it has to be done.
Small appliances should be boxed at this stage along with other essential items such as bedding, pillows, towels, pots and pans. Large white goods, including fridges and washing machines, can be disconnected much closer to the moving date.
The key to successful packing is good quality packaging materials and clearly labelling the contents of all boxes. Of course, all items should be packed carefully, too.
Labelling is important because it means boxes, and their contents, will be easy to identify when you move into your new home.
If you have lots of documents to be shifted, such as insurance records, bank statements and so on, it’s now time to gather them up and put them into boxes.
And on the subject of documentation, if you have kids of school age then you need to contact their school and arrange for their records to be transferred to their new place of learning.
It’s also time to start using up food items stored in the fridge or freezer. And it’s good to plan your food purchases for the next three weeks taking into account what you can use up.
If you have access to your new home before the move it’s a good idea to give it a deep clean before you start unpacking all those boxes.
