The Countdown to Moving House - 4 Weeks to Go

What to do Four Weeks Before Moving to a New Home

This is when plans for the move should be finalised.

Ensure your calendar will be clear in the days leading up to the move - and during and after – in case you have to deal with any last minute hiccups.

The logistics of the house move need to be considered. Is there enough room in your new street for a large removals van to park outside? You might even need a licence to park large vehicles in some streets, so you need to make sure this is sorted before the move.

Another key consideration is insurance. Your home contents insurance may cover moving house but you need to check this out with your insurers.

When it comes to any valuable items being switched between old and new houses it’s a good idea to prepare a valuation as these items will normally require special insurance.

If you are moving out of an area you should de-register with your doctor, dentist and optician and then register with new ones in the area you are moving to.

If you have kids of school age, remember to notify your children’s old school and confirm their first day of attendance at their new school.

Contact your utility suppliers informing them of your leaving date and the switch to a new address and check out the competition for better deals in your new area!

You may want to decorate your new home before moving in. If that’s the case then don't forget to arrange alternative accommodation at this stage.
