The Countdown to Moving House- 6 Weeks to Go

What to do six weeks before moving to a new home.

Once you have found the home of your dreams, and decided you really want to move there, you need to focus on how you will achieve your goal.

Lots of buyers immediately think of calling in a surveyor to check out the property.

While that’s a must, the first thing you really should do is get yourself acquainted with the area you are moving to. There’s no point moving in to a dream home if it does not have the amenities you really need nearby.

If you have a family then top of the list should be the schools in the area, followed by sports and recreation facilities as well as parks and public spaces.

Shops and eateries are important, too, especially if you enjoy retail therapy and eating out. And there’s also cinemas and other places of entertainment to consider.

If you check the facilities close to your dream home early on in the process then settling in to your new area will be that much easier.

After you are happy with your pad and its environs then it’s time to call in the surveyor, followed quickly by a solicitor who will carry out conveyancing.

It makes sense early on to plan out the new house. Decide what should go where if you already have your own furniture, TV, washing machine and so on.

It’s also a good time to decide if you need to buy any new furniture or appliances and if you want to keep anything that may have been left behind by the previous owners.
